At the CCC, there is always something happening and patients can choose to take part in any and all of our special activities and events.

Patient participation in their health care encourages and empowers them, and has been found to positively influence health outcomes. The CCC is continually creating new ways to promote a sense of community among our patients and help them to develop the skills, confidence and self-esteem needed to take an active role in maintaining their health. There are a number of ways patients may be involved in meaningful activities that contribute to the quality of life at the clinics and facilitate outreach to the community.

Consumer Advisory Board
The Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) is a voice for patients and serves to strengthen the partnership between the CCC staff, patients and the community. With participation by women and men, African-Americans, Latino/as and Caucasians, the enthusiastic members of CAB reflect the needs and interests of our diverse patient population.

The CAB serves as a forum for patients and members of the community to seek information and express opinions regarding needs and services. It is an advocate for patients. CAB members are the patient leaders of the CCC, and inform the Executive Committee of their ideas for positive additions or changes to current programs and services.

The CAB produces a semi-annual newsletter that highlights the experiences of people living with HIV and AIDS, provides information on health issues of interest to patients, and raises awareness of services at the CCC and in the community.

Annual Patient Holiday Party
For over a decade, the CCC has shared the holidays with its patients, their families and friends at the Annual Holiday party, an event that’s eagerly anticipated for weeks in advance and attended by more than 600 children, teens and adults. The holiday spirit is alive as we enjoy an afternoon of holiday cheer and companionship – complete with a sumptuous feast, live music, holiday card-making, face-painting by cosmetic artists, clowns, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Everyone - children and adults alike - go home with gifts brightly wrapped in holiday paper. Live Christmas trees sparkling with white lights and tables adorned with red cloth tablecloths and white poinsettias contribute to the festivity.

The Vagina Monologues
As many as half of our patients have experienced domestic violence in their lives and face the challenges of the long-term physical and emotional consequences that accompany trauma. In honor of their survival and our shared commitment to stop violence against women and girls, the CCC’s patients and staff, along with NiteStar, produce Eve Ensler’s award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues” each year during the global V-Day season (February-March) at the St. Luke’s Hospital Muhlenberg Auditorium. The production is particularly unique as it levels the playing field: doctors and patients perform side by side. It is this diversity that makes the monologues come to life.

World AIDS Day
Each year on December 1st, the CCC marks World AIDS Day, with a ceremony that remembers those who have been lost to the disease and celebrates the lives of all those living with HIV and AIDS - at the CCC, in the US and around the world. Panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt are on display in the lobbies of St. Luke’s and Roosevelt hospitals. Highlights of the ceremony include the personal stories of CCC patients, a reading of names of all patients who have passed on during the previous year, and a performance by NiteStar.
